Your baby at week one and two
In women body after successful sex, fertilization will typically take place after 2 weeks of the ist day of her menstrual period when ovulation has taken place.
You might calculate the due date by following method as follows:
- The date of the Ist day of the last menstrual period
- Pull 3 months from and,
- Add 7 days in it and you got the due date
Example: If the first day of your last period is 1 March , the date of the term will be 8 December.
This method of calculating the term is called Naegel’s rule. By applying this rule it assumes that the woman has a relatively regular menstrual period.

The method is based on ovulation and fertilization exactly 14 days (it might be rare) after the Ist day of the last menstrual period and that the fetus is developed and born exactly 40 weeks after the full term. A normal pregnancy can last from 37 to 42 weeks.

Mostly pregnant women give birth to their babies about 38 weeks after the egg is fertilized, but because it’s often difficult to mention the exact time frame when that happened, your GP or doctor calculates your due date by counting 40 weeks from the first day of your last period, assuming your cycle is about 28 days.
